Early Kindergarten Memories...

(Original post by me on my other blog Feb 19/07 - Revised today)

I do a variety of crafts, but over the past couple of years I have really been concentrating on papercrafting. Some of my earliest crafting memories take me back to my kindergarten days.

One of my favourite memories is cutting up old catalogs & magazines to create cards - most were for my mom. My beginnings in collage art... Over the years I have continued to clip things from magazines... Anything that caught my eye - interesting bits. Some of these clippings I've held onto for years ("pack-rat-itis" ???). I didn't really have plans for the clippings when I clipped them, but I knew I liked what I saw.

I have kept these clippings in a shoe box until they started to overflow the borders of the shoe box. It was also becoming increasingly more difficult to sort through and find the precise clipping I wanted at for a particular project... I knew I needed a better system... And let's face it - ANY system would be better than my shoe box!

So here's what I came up with:
I got this nifty purse-like file folder from HomeSense about a year ago and I added white file folders to each pocket. I have a file for clippings of "chocolates & sweet treats", one for "nature", one for "famous people", one for "letters, words & phrases" as well as several others.

Not only can I easily find the clipping I want for my latest project, but it adds a real sense of style to my craftroom!

What is your earliest crafting memory?

Hi Shelley,

Thanks for the cool idea! I went to HomeSense last night and found a purse-like folder like yours. Now all I have to do is find all of my clippings and sort them.

Thanks again!
